Super Slow WebDAV (Windows Explorer View) with SharePoint Libraries

While working on my Windows 7 PC, I started to experience extermely slow response time using Explorer view with SharePoint Libraries.  Luckily, there was a very simple fix – turn off auto-proxy detection in Internet Explorer.
